THE public are being advised to bring forward any discovery of foreign objects found in canned food to responsible authorities.
Ethel Mapolu of food safety division under the Ministry of Environmental healthy made the clarification on Thursday.
She said, that media is not the right first place to go because even when they do the news they won’t do anything further on that except for the ministry responsible.
“We are more than willing to investigate that issue if the public come forward and show us what they found,” she said.
“The reason why we never do anything about those discoveries is because we don’t see them.
“At the moment we are aware of the issue and looking at ways to address it,” she added.
Mrs Mapolu said, as long as they find evidences, they will act to make sure there is food safety for the citizens.
“At the moment the Act is being reviewed and hopefully by the end of this year things will be active again,” she added.
So while the act is being reviewed, she advice the general public and importers to be careful of what they are buying and importing for consumption.
“We will be up with tough measures as long as we find evidences about the issues,” she said.
