HEARING of evidences on the matter of the two men who allegedly printed and circulated counterfeit $100 notes in Honiara last year will commence today in the Honiara Magistrate Court.
Paul Olofia and Mark Naku are facing trial for the charge of uttering before Deputy Chief Magistrate, Ricky Iomea.
The trial was scheduled to start yesterday but could not eventuate because the defence lawyer was not available.
The court heard that Public Solicitor, Ben Alasia, was engaged in another matter in the High Court.
The matter was therefore adjourned to start today.
Police arrested the duo after Olofia allegedly tried to purchase a canned food item from a shop at Titinge, Guadalcanal, on 23 July 2022 with a fake $100 note.
The shop keeper was the one who alerted police about the fake local currency notes when he discovered that the $100 that was bought with for the canned food item was fake.
Olofia escaped and was arrested later.
Naku who allegedly waited in a car for Olofia when he went to buy at the shop was arrested by police at the scene.
During the arrest, police seized some $100 fake notes discovered in Naku’s possession.
