Heavy rain had resulted in parts of the low-lying areas of Honiara city being flooded as showers continue to hit Solomon Islands.
A notable part of the city which has been flooded included the Kukum highway in East Honiara.
Images circulating via the social media have seen the Kukum highway being flooded from run offs flowing from the Kukum and Vura drainage systems.
The stretch of road along the main Kukum highway Woodford to Bahai experienced flooding restricting the movement of vehicles.
In West Honiara, the junction near the Rove Bulk Shop was also flooded.
Streams within the White River communities were also flooded.
Most of the rivers and streams within the city have been flooded in the past hours.
The heavy showers had forced many people to remain indoors restricting them from going out to enjoy the festive season this weekend.
Some families in Honiara cancelled their planned trip to the Christmas trees at Our Telekom and Ports Unity Square due to the current bad weather.
Parts of the country will experience heavy rain due to a trough which currently lies over the country.
The Solomon Islands Meteorological Service (MET) this afternoon also issued its first heavy raining warning.
In a statement issued at 5pm, the weather office said, the heavy raining warning is current for most of the provinces nation-wide.
A trough lies over the Solomon Islands which leads to change in the weather pattern.
“As a result, associated clouds and heavy rain with thunderstorms are expected to affect most provinces,” the statement said.
At 11pm tonight, the weather office said, heavy clouds will continue to bring showers tonight and tomorrow.
The country is now within the cyclone season which runs from November to April.
