THE Development Bank of Solomon Islands (DBSI) support towards the recent Honiara Table Tennis Association (HTTA) School championship is part of preparing athletes for the Pacific Games 2023.
Thats according to the DBSI Senior Financial Support Officer Samson Kakadi in his brief comments during the awards presentations on Wednesday.
The support from DBSI totals to $4,212.00 which includes the awards.
“DBSI is grateful to support the school competition as it will play an important role in preparing young athletes for the Pacific Games 2023.
“The support is also aimed at developing table tennis to new heights and help athletes to be good role models in the future.
“This could be a sport career for some and we hope to see some of the athletes represent Team Solomon in the Pacific Games 2023 and also compete in future competitions regionally and internationally,” he said.
Honiara Table Tennis Association, Kevin Olea acknowledged DBSI for the support and highlighted that is marks the start of a great relationship between DBSI and the HTTA.
Olea highlighted the aim of the event is to scout and select best young table tennis players to represent team Honiara in the upcoming Solomon Games and be part of the High Performance schools that will soon open.
The HTTA School competition will be an annual event.
