Rugby League SP PNG Hunters coach Michael Marum on Tuesday named his 18 man squad for the opening match of the Intrust Super Cup competition against Redcliffe in Brisbane this Sunday.
The club will take 18 players with one player to be omitted prior to kick off. Marum said training this week has been good with the players and coaching staff looking forward to getting the season underway.
“It’s time to get out there and play. We are still working hard on the little things we need to get right but the players are really looking forward to the opening match against Redcliffe,” Marum said.
He said the team will leave Port Moresby on Thursday to prepare well and meet their commitments to the Queensland Rugby League season launch on Friday.
Marum, captain Israel Eliab, PNGRFL chairman Sandis Tsaka, CEO Brad Tassell and Sports Minister Justin Tkatchenko will attend the QRL official launch of the Intrust Super Cup competition in Brisbane on Friday morning with other club representatives, media and special guests.
The clubs music video and promotion clip will be featured prominently at the launch along with a tourism video showcasing the clubs home base for the next two years in Kokopo.
Marum said the players will also be attending a welcome BBQ put on by the PNG community and the PNG Consulate at the Roma Street Parklands on Saturday morning before heading to training in the afternoon for the clubs captains run.
“We are expecting great support at the match and I hope the PNG community living in Brisbane gets to the game to support the boys,” he added.
The game kicks off at 2pm on Sunday.
