MEMBERS of the Malaita Provincial Assembly have elected Joe Heroau to be their deputy speaker.
Heroau is the provincial member for Ward 25.
He is not new to the province.
In the last government, he was finance minister and once acting premier.
These experiences have prepared him well for his new role.
He will assist newly elected speaker Ronny Butala.
According to section 22 of the Provincial Government Act, the deputy speaker to act in the absent of the speaker or when the office of the Speaker is vacant.
