Fletcher Kwaimani Joint Venture Group and the HHH Rugby Club Events Team have teamed up to bring to you, the ‘Fletcher Kwaimani Man Up Rugby Challenge’.
A 15s Rugby Union Tournament said to kick off in April @ DC Park Rugby Field, Henderson.
We caught up with one of the organisers for more information on the tournament. He mentioned, “The challenge has been put out there. 4 very good teams have accepted the challenge and we will see who has what it takes to become champion. This is a 4 week short tournament; therefore, every game should be treated as a final. With Fletcher Kwaimani as the main sponsor, prize money will be up for grabs for all teams. But more importantly, winning this challenge would give the winner bragging rights leading up to much anticipated 2016 Honiara rugby season hosted by HRUA.”
One team gearing up for the upcoming tournament is the HammerHeads Rugby Club. They were spotted down at Rove Police Field going through their afternoon intense training session.
Coach of the HammerHeads Mr Phillip Campbell was able to give us an insight on their training session. “We are focusing on getting the boys in shape and upping the fitness levels to be ready for 80mins of Rugby.
“We have a good mixture of seniors plus national players and rookies for 2016. Our senior boys are fully focused on taking the leading role and deputising our new boys into the game.
“We will be ready when the time comes to take the field and we look forward for some great games of rugby. Big thank you to Fletcher Kwaimani, we have accepted the Challenge!”
April 9th is the confirmed date for the event to kick off. All are invited to come out and watch the games at DC Park, Henderson.
First Game will be at 1:30pm and the second starts 3:30pm. Curtain raiser match will be scheduled to kick start the tournament as well. A report coming from the organisers say a major HHH 7s Rugby Tournament is the next to take place. Details to be confirmed.
