The demand for ship for the Auki-Honiara route is high despite daily shipping service from two fast crafts Pelican Express and Auki Express.
More Malaitans who spent the 2022 festive session in their respective homes are making their way back to Honiara boosting the demand for ship.
For the past two weeks, travelling passengers are flooding Auki wharf looking for the first possible sea transport to get back to the capital city.
Many travelling public are quick to acknowledge the shipping service trended by Pelican Express and Auki Express which allow the travelling public to travel in comfort between Malaita and Guadalcanal.
Many have shared the sentiments that without the service of the fast crafts, travelling passengers between Auki and Honiara will be stranded for ships.
As witnessed in the past two weeks, even with the availability of other ships like MV Taimareho and others, the daily demand for ships at Auki wharf is still high, which gave shipping services servicing Auki-Honiara route an advantage.
In the meantime, police remind shipping services and the travelling public to adhere by the marine safety rules and do not overload ships for the safety of all travelling passengers and crews.
