On Tuesday, the country paid tribute to Late Sir Paul Tovua following his death last Friday.
To honour this great leader, Late Sir Paul was accorded an ‘Official’ Funeral on Tuesday where his body Lay In-State at the Parliament chamber.
Leaders of the country and the public got the opportunity to pay their last respect to him.
Late Sir Paul was described as one of the great chiefs and sons of Central Guadalcanal.
He was a well-respected Solomon Islands’ statesman.
Late Sir Paul was one of the few remaining founding fathers of the Solomon Islands that negotiated and signed the country’s Independence in 1978.
He was a politician, who has served in Parliament representing the Central Guadalcanal constituency since 1976.
He was a founding member of the first National Parliament of Solomon Islands, which sat from 1976-80.
He served as the Speaker of the National Parliament of Solomon Islands from 1994-2001.
He has served in many Govt institutions, commissions, and community leadership roles and has truly served his country with integrity, humility, and dignity.
He was appointed Knight Commander of the Order of St Michael and St George in the 2014 New Year Honours list, “for services to politics and to the community”.
His contribution to community, church and the politic has been tremendous.
He was also a sportsman. During his younger days, he plays rugby. He also played golf.
His contribution to the church especially the Roman Catholic Church is unmatched.
With the support of his wife, they have been supportive of church activities.
There’s so much, this nation and the leaders can learn from this great man.
His leadership quality and humbleness are but some of his unique qualities.
Those who came to know him will testify the leadership quality this great man has.
He has a heart for this nation and wants to see it progress.
Although he has left us, his legacy will linger on.
