The Solomon Islands national men and women’s hockey teams has left the country for Sydney, Australia yesterday to take part in the Intercontinental Cup competition.
Team Solomon is led by Winki Yee as team manager who will meet up the president of the Solomon Islands Hockey Federation (SIHF) Nihal Seneviratne and head coach Julian Brazier who are already in Australia.
Yee said he is confident that our boys and girls will represent the country well in the competition.
“These boys and girls have been preparing well for this competition thus I’m confident that they will do their best in this competition,’’ he told Star Sports prior to their departure yesterday.
He said he trusted that they will do better compared to their previous competitions they attended in the region.
“We have a good mixer of old and new players in both teams.
“Our only appeal is for all Solomon Islanders to support us in pray as we will go out there and represent the country,’’ he added.
Solomon Islands will compete against national teams from Fiji, Samoa, Tonga, Vanuatu and Australia.
Star Sports understands the Intercontinental Cup will kick off this morning 9am at the Sydney Olympic Hockey Stadium.
Meanwhile, the competition will run from 11-15 of October 2017.
