AN argument between a father and his son over the lucrative beche-de-mer product has led to the burning of a home in small Ngella, Central Province.
Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Central Province, Superintendent David Soakai in a statement issued by Police Media Unit said the incident happened after an argument between the suspect (father) and his son over beche-de-mer, which created frustration to the suspect, and he decided to burn his son’s house.
“Both top part of a dwelling house including its roof was fully burnt down and nothing was left inside. Beddings, clothing and other properties were all burnt down. The victim and family were only left with the clothes they wore,” he said.
As a result Tulagi Police have arrested the 69-year-old male suspect (father) for burning his son’s dwelling house at Longapolo village in small Ngella on Sunda, 14 November 2021, the statement said.
The statement added it will be alleged that about 3pm in the afternoon, on Saturday 13 November 2021, the suspects went to the victim’s dwelling house with a container containing petrol then poured the petrol in the dwelling house and shortly after that, he struck a handle matches and set fire on the house.
Mr. Soakai said police are looking at the possibility to lay charge of Arson Contrary to Section 319 of the Penal Code and remanded the suspect while investigation continues on this incident.
“It is really a sad incident and I call on my good people in Central Province to avoid such to happen in our communities. Community leaders, chiefs and church leaders are there to assist in dealing with problems in our communities. Seek them for help to avoid such to happen,” said PPC Soakai.
