THE 2018 Honiara District (HONDIS) Dorcas Federation weekend camp has ended successfully on Sunday with a colourful parade and sports activities.
The program was staged at the Maranatha Hall over three days.
The camp saw most of the dorcas societies within the Honiara District spending their weekend in camp around the Maranatha Hall.
The theme for this year is ‘Committed to Serve.’ The host for the 2018 HONDIS Dorcas Federation was Burnscreek SDA Church.
On Friday night and Saturday (Sabbath) members of the federation held fellowship programs through singing, prayer session, Bible discussions, talks, sharing of testimonies, presentation of reports for the work they do this year in their societies and concert.
The highlight of the program was the march parade yesterday followed by sports competitions between the all societies.
The parade yesterday commenced yesterday morning from Lunga to Maranatha Hall where ladies paraded around the sports ground.
Guest of Honour at the event was Dr Cedric Alependava Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Women, Youth and Children Affairs.
Other officials witnessing the march past parade included President of HONDIS Dorcas Federation Delker Pakivai, Beverly Maega Director of the Womens Ministry, Children & Family Life and Pr Irvin Vagha Community Services Director for the Solomon Islands Mission (SIM) of Seventh day Adventist (SDA) Church.
Speaking at the occasion Dr Alependava highlighted the importance of gender equality inorder to achieve something in life.
“We must practice equality in work,” he said.
He highlighted in his speech that women always play an important role at homes and community. So they deserved to be recognised.
“Therefore, women must be honored in their service at homes, societies, communities and nation,” he said.
He thanked members of the Dorcas for their contribution to service to the community this year.
President of HONDIS Ms Pakivai thanked all federation executive members for their tireless and dedication in contributing to the work of Dorcas in Honiara and for successfully completing the 2018 program.
“I would like to thank the HONDIS Federation Executive members for your tireless support and leadership this year.
“I have been blessed and have learnt a lot in my association with you.
“Thank your time in advancing the work of the Dorcas Society in this Honiara District,” she said.
The president also thanked the 2018 host for this year’s federation event, Burnscreek Dorcas Society for their plans and leadership to make the program a successful one.
Pr Irvin also acknowledged all the members for their dedication in supporting the work of dorcas this year.
“To be a mother is not that easy but you are very committed to serve the community and the people out there,” he said.
He added the theme (committed to serve) is a well chosen theme that reflects on the fact that mothers always struggle to support the family despite father being the head.
This year members of the Dorcas have engaged in hospital and school feedings.
In their own communities they also visited the elderlies and provided them with food, clothes and soaps to support them. Some also conducted Bible studies.
With the 2018 program formally closed, members of the federation are looking forward for another successful year in 2019.
