A MAN accused of sexually abusing his wife’s 11-year-old niece in their family home will appear again at the Honiara Magistrates Court on September 9.
This was for the accused to follow up on his request for a lawyer from the Public Solicitor’s Office.
The man, who cannot be named to protect the identity of the alleged victim, faced one count of indecent assault.
He appeared in court on Friday but was yet to be legally represented.
Public Prosecutor Elma Rizzu informed the court that investigation into the matter was still ongoing and sought a 14-day adjournment.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Shepherd Lapo granted the adjournment and further remanded the accused in custody.
The alleged incident occurred in October last year at Henderson, east of Honiara.
Prosecution alleged the accused sexually abused the girl who was residing with the accused and his wife at Henderson.
The matter was reported to police last year but the accused was just arrested and charged this month.
The reason for the delay in his arrest as alleged was because he was on the run from the police.
