Intending candidate and a member of the United Democratic Party (UDP) Kenneth Bulehite assures the people, business houses and Gizo residents that his paramount task is to restore the water problem in Gizo.
He made this statement during his two hours campaign in front of a good number of crowd and market vendors in Gizo yesterday afternoon.
His assurance come after the people complained about the water problem in Gizo which really affects the businesses, tourism industry, Health and residence of Gizo.
The Solomon Star has been told in Gizo yesterday that most motels, and home stays were really affected thus it affects their daily services.
This issue was deliberately emphasise during Mr Bulehite’s campaign and it sinks well in the minds of the voters.
“The biggest and long standing problem in Gizo which we are currently facing now and this is one of my main focus is to find solution for our water problem.
“The reason why I give my focus to our water issue because last year I was tasked to look into our water problem and I did a survey on it,” Mr Bulehite said.
He added that he spent most of his time to identify what was the real problem of Gizo and its residence.
The Solomon Star understands that Solomon Water had been trying to address this issue but they were concerned if the people in Gizo will pay their water bill.
“Within the first seven months if I take up the leadership I will make sure that this longstanding water problem in Gizo must come to an end,” Mr Bulehite confirmed in Gizo.
Mr Bulehite said that tourism industry in Gizo is already affected, “every day we lose our tourists, why because of our water problem.
“They cannot stay longer in Gizo because there is no water and the more we prolong this issue we are losing our money which will affect our constituency’s economy.
“We talked so much about tourism industry in Gizo but we cannot achieve it because we have a huge problem to fix and we need to fix our water,” Mr Bulehite said.
Mr Bulehite is an engineer by profession and he holds a Master Degree in water resources and one of the candidates who is contesting in the upcoming bi-election in Gizo/Kolobangara.
The people of Gizo/Kolobangara constituency will cast their votes tomorrow to determine their next Member of Parliament, after it was left vacant by defunct MP Jimson Tanaganda who lost his seat after a petition result against him by his rival Gordon Darcy Lilo.
Gordon Darcy Lilo is one the candidates vying for the post.
Lanelle Tanaganda, the wife of Jimson is the only female contesting.
