SOLOMON Islands Mission (SIM) of the Seventh Day Adventist (SDA) Church had officially launch its ‘I Will Go To My Neighbour’ outreach initiative to bring people within the neighbourhood and communities know about Jesus and His soon return.
The launching was conducted nation-wide by most of the Adventist Churches over the weekend.
In Honiara, the main launching program was held at the Maranatha Hall in East Honiara where a series of presentations and sermon was conducted on Friday night and Sabbath.
On Friday night SIM General Secretary Pr Clifton Mark took the sermon where he reminded members of the congregation about who are their neighbours.
He explained that neighbours can be anyone living close or next to you in a community or opposite you in a street or suburb.
Not only that but it can be someone whom you came to know, someone who is in need or even your enemy.
“And its important to reach out to them and help them through your kind deeds and actions so that they can come to know about God and commit their lives to Christ before His (Christ) return.”
He said, as members of the church they are like missionaries and therefore must invite, instruct, inspire and involve people who wants to know about God.
He reminded the congregation to be ready and be active for this outreach program this year.
On Sabbath, a number of presentations were conducted by the various departments within SIM Office such as stewardship, health, education, evangelism and ministerial.
There was a dedicatory prayer being offered to all the ministers, pastors, district directors, and departmental heads during that program.
Former President Dr Silent Tovosia made the prayer in front of the packed congregation at Maranatha Hall. This is so that they are committed to engaging in the program this year.
SIM President Pr David Filo officially launched the initiative with a powerful sermon about getting involved in program this year.
He said, with time fast running and Jesus is coming back soon, the church and its members must use whatever means to share the word of God’s word to others.
Pr Filo who took over as the president early this year said, there should be more investment in the outreach programs in the neighbourhood and communities.
He said, more financial resources should be thrown in to support the work of reaching the unreached and those who need to hear about God’s truth and its end time message.
He also shared a story of young man who travelled to some parts of the country and recently to Vella and Ranoggah without any financial support to preach to every community about God’s word.
“Some accepted him to share God’s word with them while others decline his invitation. But he moves around with little financial help,” he said.
Pr Filo said, the story of this young fine man should be an example for all in the Church to have the passion to share the truth to all before Christ’s return.
He encouraged members of the church to do whatever little they can in their neighbourhood so that others can come to know God.
A number of programs are being planned this year as part of the program.
A special offering was also collected to support the rollout of the program on Sabbath.
