Solomon Islands has improved in her literacy rate to 61 percent in 2013, a huge leap from 41 percent in 2005.
Dr Franco Rhodie revealed this during the annual joint review meeting at Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) conference room yesterday.
The theme of the meeting was: ‘Effective Monitoring and Evaluation to Inform Future Action: Are we there yet?’
He was responding to one of the female participants who claimed literacy level among human beings has not improved despite a lot of money had been poured on infrastructure development.
She said this is one of the areas the meeting should look seriously into plus the school drop outs.
However, Dr Rhodie said there is a wonderful improvement for literacy programme in the country.
“We have identified two pilot projects to implement the literacy programme.
“The Ministry will come up with a literacy framework as well,” he said.
Dr Rhodie said education is a long term thing, but if everyone keep working hard and smart and continue monitor teachers, in 20 year’s time, the literacy standard would improve.
