Unlicensed firearms possessor to return to court
THE matter of a man accused of possessing a World War II rifle and ammunition without a firearm licence in 2021 will return to court next week.
That is for Pre-Trial Conference.
Iro Kwaita is facing one count of possession of firearm or ammunition without licence, to which, he already pleaded not guilty to.
He appeared yesterday in the Honiara Magistrates Court and his matter was adjourned to Thursday next week.
The prosecution alleged that Kwaita possessed a riffle and ammunition without a current firearm license in 2021.
Police had already recovered the World War II riffle and six bullets from a young man at Ranadi, East Honiara, in November 2021, during the riot period.
The young man who said he was looking after the firearm for Kwaita was already sentenced to five months in prison last year.
Man may take plea to grievous harm charge, Feb 23
A MAN who allegedly cut another man with a knife at Gilbert Camp, East Honiara, is likely to take his plea on February 23.
Eddie Hudson Asuana, 33, is facing one count of Grievous Harm contrary to section 226 of the Penal Code.
His matter was supposed to be in for plea yesterday.
However, the prosecution and Asuana’s lawyer have yet to agree to the facts of the matter.
Principal Magistrate, Leonard Chite, had made direction for Asuana’s lawyer to respond to the prosecution in terms of the Agreed Facts.
The alleged incident was said to have occurred on 21 May 2022 at around 12 o’clock at night
It was alleged Asuana cut the victim’s leg with a knife.
