Closing arguments on laptop, mobile phones larceny today
CLOSING submissions on the matter of the man who stood trial for allegedly stealing a laptop and some mobile phones from a shop in Honiara will be made in court this morning.
Martin Pola Nehemiah has faced trial for three counts of simple larceny before Principal Magistrate, Felix Hollison.
The prosecution called three witnesses for their case, whilst Nehemiah gave evidence in his defence at the trial.
Police charged Pola for allegedly stealing four mobile phones and a laptop from Smart Technology shop in China Town.
It was alleged that he went to the shop and introducing himself to the Managing Director as the President of the Christian Education Schools of Solomon Islands (ACESSI), Nehemiah made an agreement with him.
The agreement was for Nehemiah to collect items from the shop and those items were to be paid by ACESSI upon the availability of its school grants.
Nehemiah then allegedly on three occasions between 28 February 2019 and 28 March 2019 went to the shop and collected a total of four mobile phones and a net book laptop.
Each of the mobile phones costed $2,250 and the laptop, $2,850.
Few months later, the complainant made several attempts to contact Nehemiah through mobile phone but Nehemiah would give a negative feedback.
The complainant even gave Nehemiah a grace period of 12 months in 2020 so he could make the payments for the items but that was not done.
Nehemiah was arrested after the complainant lodged a complaint to the police.
Evidence hearing in Lusibaea case continues today
HEARING of evidences in the case of a driver who allegedly hit and killed a man outside a nightclub at Henderson in Central Guadalcanal in 2020 will continue today.
The murder trial of Jimmy Lusibaea Junior (Jnr) started on Monday before Justice Ronald Bei Talasasa.
The Crown’s first witness was in the witness box since Monday.
This is due to the ongoing power outage in the capital, which affected the hearing throughout the day.
It is understood that the High Court depends on Solomon Power for electricity as their generator could not cater for the whole High Court premises.
Police charged Lusibaea Jnr in relation to the incident, which allegedly occurred between 6am and 8am on 6 December 2020 outside the Island Nightclub.
The prosecution alleged Lusibaea Jnr drove a white double cabin Hilux at high speed in front of the club and allegedly hit and killed the deceased.
This allegedly occurred shortly after an argument and rock-throwing incident between the opposing parties that morning.
Public Solicitor, George Gray, represents Lusibaea Jnr, whilst Margaret Suifa’asia appears for the Crown.
