Murder cases committed to High Court
TWO men facing separate murder matters in Guadalcanal early this year are now facing trial in the High Court.
Their matters were committed to the High Court for trial after the Magistrate Court found sufficient evidences against them.
This was after a Short Form Preliminary Inquiry (committal hearing) was conducted on their matters.
The two defendants will be appearing before the High Court for the first time on June 30.
22-year-old Peter Junior Perobo was accused of the murder of a man in Tanasali Village on 17 February this year.
The prosecution alleged that Perobo and the deceased had an argument over a bottle of kwaso and Perobo allegedly punched and kicked him.
The other matter is that of Daniel Suiramo, 27, for allegations in Sumate Village on 5 January this year.
It was alleged that he shot his sister with a bush knife and the knife went into her right leg.
His sister was washing rice at the tank when he shot the knife at her.
It was alleged that their mother, before going to church, told them not to eat nuts she prepared for market the next day.
When their mother left, Suiramo allegedly took some of the nuts and ate them.
Upon their mother’s return, the deceased reported what Perobo did to their mother and that was when Suiramo allegedly got angry and committed the offence.
The deceased was transported for treatment at the National Referral Hospital but died a few days later.
Win Win Mining boss’s matter for judgement
THE fate of the General Manager of Win Win Mining Company who was accused of intimidating landowners with a replica gun last year will be known in court this morning.
This followed the closing submissions made on the matter of Dhan Shi who stood trial for two counts of intimidation.
The prosecution had called two witnesses at the trial, whilst Shi remained silent for the defence case.
The charges against Shi were laid after a search warrant was conducted for a replica firearm at the Win Win area at Alligator Creek and also at Turarana where the company operates.
This followed the allegation that on 1 April 2022, Shi intimidated some landowners with a replica gun.
It was alleged on that date that some landowners called in at Win Win Company to seek advance payment for the purpose of purchasing goods for the mourning ceremony for one of their relatives.
It was alleged that Shi suddenly appeared with a replica gun and intimidated the landowners as he was not happy with one of them.
