Firimolea to take plea
A man accused of two separate break-ins in Honiara and Guadalcanal is likely to take his plea on Monday next week.
Frank Firimolea appeared in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court yesterday for the charges of store break-in and office break-in.
He was supposed to enter his plea to the store break-in charge yesterday but his lawyer sought an adjournment.
Rodney Manebosa of Public Solicitor’s Office said he needs time to take instructions from his client regarding three statements.
These three statements were that of the three other men who were previously jointly charged with Firimolea.
The charges against the three men were withdrawn at a previous court appearance.
This is in relation to an allegation on April 28, this year at Guadalcanal Plains Palm Oil Limited (GPPOL 2) in North Central Guadalcanal.
Prosecution alleged Firimolea allegedly broke into a store and stole some cash and a carton of cigarette.
In relation the office break-in charge, Firimolea will be entering his pleas on the next court date as well.
This alleged incident relates to an allegation on 22 October 2018 at the Honiara City Council (HCC) office.
Firimolea allegedly escaped but was later arrested after finger print tests were carried out.
He is also facing other charges of armed robbery and resisting police arrest where he will be taking his pleas to, this Thursday.
He is co-accused with Eddie Sanau in this matter.
Prosecution alleged that seven armed men including these two accused allegedly robbed more than $50,000 from the Nature Bakery, located in East Honiara.
The alleged incident occurred in the early hours of April 28, this year, the same day he allegedly committed the store break-in at GPPOL 2.
The men who were allegedly armed with knives also allegedly attacked the owner and manager of the Bakery of which they received injuries.
Money stolen during the attack was already recovered by police.
Disclosures for accused received
Lawyers representing the men accused of robbing a shop at Capital Park in East Honiara last December have now received final disclosures.
Lesley Lui, 19, James Ata, 22, Andrew Kesa, 30, and Junior Irokete 19, are facing various charges of robbery, possession of firearm and ammunition and possession of weapon.
Public Solicitor’s lawyers who represented the four men have now received photographs they previously requested in relation to this alleged robbery incident.
Having received the documents, the lawyer requested more time to conference with their clients before a pre-trial conference is conducted.
The mater will return to court again on Thursday for a possible pre-trial conference.
Both counsels were ordered to sort out documents for pre-trial conference before Thursday.
The four men were accused of robbing a shop, Noor & Son Limited at about 7.45am on 22 December 2018.
The shop was operated by a Bangladesh national.
Prosecution alleged that one of the accused was allegedly armed with a firearm.
It was alleged that during the robbery, one with the firearm used it to threaten the shop’s cashier while two others collected $10,000.
One of the accused also allegedly used a rubber to scare off the security guards.
The men then allegedly escaped by running on foot across the main road towards Burns Creek area.
They then allegedly left in a vehicle heading towards town but were later arrested.
All accused are represented by the Public Solicitor’s Office while the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions is prosecuting.
