Casino operator’s trial set to start tomorrow
TRIAL on the case of a foreigner accused of operating an illegal casino in 2018 will commence tomorrow in the Honiara Magistrates’ Court.
Ngie Kwong Pau from Malaysia is facing trial for one count of unlawful possession of instruments of gaming.
His matter was listed for trial on Monday before Principal Magistrate Felix Hollison.
However, the prosecution had asked for more time to prepare as she was engaged in other trials last week.
Pau was accused of operating an illegal casino at the Capital Park, East Honiara in 2018.
He was arrested following a police raid at the alleged illegal casino site on 22 December 2018.
Police applied for a search warrant in November 2018 based on a formal complaint from the Solomon Islands Gaming and Lotteries Board on 30 November 2018.

Indecent assault case set for August
A BAIL application will be made for a man accused of indecently assaulting his young daughter in Isabel Province between 2015 and 2018.
This was after tentative dates for his trial was fixed yesterday before Principal Magistrate Felix Hollison.
The trial dates were fixed for 3 to 7 of August.
The court will be hearing the application for the bail tomorrow.
The 39-year-old father who cannot be named to protect the identity of his daughter is facing four counts of an indecent act without consent.
Three of the indecent act offences allegedly happened between 2015 and 2016 when the alleged victim was about 11 years of age.
The latest incident happened in 2018 when the alleged victim was 14 years old.
Apart from these offences, the accused had already pleaded guilty to two counts of intimidation and one count of common assault.
The alleged victim in the offences of intimidation and common assault charge is a male person also from Isabel while the accused’s sister is the alleged victim in another intimidation charge.
Public Solicitor’s lawyer Rodney Manebosa represents the accused while appearing for the Crown is Public Prosecutor Francisca Angilio Luza.
