THE Independent Leaders has thanked the Democratic Coalition for Change (DCC) Government on the declaration of the new Attorney General (AG) which was announced last month.
Speaking to members of the local media in a press conference on Monday, the leader of the independent group Manasseh Maelanga acknowledged the government for finally announcing the new AG after quite a while.
“I just want to thank the DCC Government for the announcement of its new legal advisor.
“This is an important post for the government that took so long for us to have.
“On behalf of the independent office, I want to thank the government for announcing the country’s new Attorney general,” Maelanga said.
Last month, the government has appointed former private lawyer and High Court judge James Apaniai to be the country’s new Attorney General.
He replaces the outgoing attorney general Billy Titiulu, who served two governments during his tenure.
Mr Apaniai obtained a Bachelor of Laws Degree at the University of Papua New Guinea (UPNG) where he was admitted to the bar as a Barrister and Solicitor in 1981.
He was subsequently admitted as a Barrister and Solicitor in the High Court of the Solomon on 12 February 1982.
Meanwhile, the Attorney General’s post was widely advertised by the government both in the country and overseas.
