INMATE Rockson Sam, 63, of part Malaita Province and Western Province heritage was released on Parole Orders on Wednesday at Rove Central Correctional Centre in Honiara.
The formal announcement of the Parole Orders made by the Minister of the Ministry of Police, National Security & Correctional Services (MPNSCS), Anthony Kamutulaka Veke, was made by the Commissioner of the Correctional Service Solomon Islands (CSSI) Commissioner, Mactus Forau.
Minister Veke approved and ordered the release of Sam based on the recommendations of the Parole Board.
This authority is contained in Section 75 of the Correctional Services Act 2007 and the Parole Amendment Regulations 2020.
The approval of the Parole Order for Sam followed lengthy Parole Application Hearings and deliberations by the Parole Board on June 13 and 14 June this year.
Sam will serve the remaining time of his sentence in his respective communities under conditions of release and supervision as determined by the Solomon Islands Parole Board.
The Parole Board is provided for under the Correctional Service’s Act 2007 and is an independent body and the sole entity that considers and determines parole eligibility and the conditions of release and where deemed necessary, the revocation of parole orders when the conditions are not complied with.
