MORE than 20 inmates at Tetere Correctional Centre have volunteered to clean Nguvia Community High School on Thursday in preparation for the reopening of schools.
One of the school teachers Ogami Akoeasi said the inmates spent the whole day cutting grass and cleaning the interior of buildings at the school.
Ms Akoeasi said the work was supposed to be done by GPPOL but after many failed requests, the school principal went and ask the prison service to assist the school.
She said after seeing the state of the school the prison service agreed for the inmates to do the cleaning.
She said this was the first time the inmates were deployed to help the school.
“Nguvia Community High School is very pleased to have the presence of the SIG inmates from Tetere Correctional Centre for their support in cleaning our school campus,” Ms Akoeasi said as she thanked the inmates and the Tetere Correctional Centre.
All secondary schools and rural training centres will start classes on May 30th followed by primary schools and later early childhood education centres.
