THE Southern region inter-secondary school sport championship in Malaita province has completed successfully at Rokera PSS from 22nd-25th June.
Seven schools namely Rokera PSS, Maroupaina CHS, Masupa CHS, Hunanawa CHS, Sarawasi CHS, Ote CHS and U’hu CHS participated in the competition.
They took part in 11-aside soccer, netball, volleyball and track event (100m).
Furthermore, there was speech competition organised outside the field.
In the senior category, Rokera PSS, Maroupaina CHS and Masupa participated, while all seven schools took part in the junior category.
School principal of Rokera PSS, Jeffery Poea said it was a successful championship where all participating schools have enjoyed it both on the field and off the field.
Poea said most of the schools have prepared ahead for the competition which made it competitive.
“The main idea behind this competition is allow the students to develop competitive mentality so they can apply it in the classroom,” he said.
Poea said Rokera will again play host to the event next year.
“We encourage all schools in Southern region that did not participate this year to participate next year.
“This is to allow us to look for potential athletes so country can depend on them in future, as we prepare for 2023 Pacific Games,” he added.
In the meantime, Poea wish to thank the major sponsors, Jeffery Kaka of Prestigious Apartment; Bishop Christopher Cardon from Auki Catholic Diocese; Advance Group of Company; Small Malaita Shipping Company and MP for Small Malaita, Rick Hou.
