Solomon Islands National University’s (SINU) is kicking off its two days of inter-school competition today.
The event will be held at the Kukum campus sports field.
Jimmy Luitolo, the sports co-ordinator said all school participating teams and supporters should be at the sports ground by 7:30am this morning.
“There will be an official opening in the morning.Student should be at the Kukum campussports field by 7:30am and by 8:00am students will be having their parade and march pass which will involve inspection of the parade.”
The participating teams will be the School of Education and Humanities (SOEH), School of Business Management (SBM), School of Nursing and Health Allied Science (SNHAS), School of Natural Resources and Allied Science (SNRAS) and School of Technology Marine time services (STMS).
Some of the sports that will be featured included futsal, netball, soccer, volleyball and touch rugby.
Mr Luitolo said top referees from various sports federation will officiate in the games to allow for fairness.
The theme for this year’s sports competition is ‘Making Connection Through Sports and Education’.
From the competition a squad will be selected for the upcoming inter-tertiary sports competition at the end of the year, he said.
“During the competition there will be a selection for the university squad for the inter-tertiary games.”
This year SINU will host the university games where students from Fiji and Papua New Guinea based universities will compete after returning home from their studies later this year.
The sports coordinator thanked the various federations for allowing their professional referees to officiate in the games today and tomorrow.
Meanwhile Luitolo said he plans to start a gym for the university students at both Panatina and Kukum campus.
“I wants to build the spirit of games at the Solomon Island National University’s (SINU) therefore, I want to install gym centres at both Kukum and Panatina campus for students to use inorder keep fit at all times,” he said.
