INTERNATIONAL arrivals into the country for the third quarter of 2021 has further decreased compared to the second quarter, with 82 people recorded.
The National Statistics Office released the latest report on Monday 6th December 2021.
Government Statistician Douglas Kimi said the total number of arrivals showed a decrease of 88.9% compared to the previous quarter (2nd quarter).
“This is a decrease of 88.9% compared to the second quarter of this year. However compared to the same quarter a year ago, a decrease of 89.8% was recorded.
“Returning residents made up 87.8% of arrivals for third quarter 2021. This was followed by Visitors with 12.2% of arrivals and the remaining 0.0% were Intending residents.”
Mr Kimi said visitor arrivals for the third quarter decreased by 94.4% to 10 visitors, compared to the second quarter 2021 figure of 177 visitors.
He said there was a decrease of 94.8% in visitor arrivals from third quarter 2020 to third quarter 2021.
Meanwhile, restrictions on international flights as part of the State of Public Emergency, SOPE, measure against Covid-19 pandemic had adverse implications on visitors travelling predominantly for tourism purposes.
Third quarter 2021 recorded zero tourists whose purpose of travel was for holiday and vacation. Hence, there are zero days spent in transit by tourists/visitors in the country.
