THE official international observer teams for next week’s National General Elections are starting to arrive in the country as of Monday.
Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Beraki Jino has confirmed this yesterday.
Jino said two official teams from the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat and the Commonwealth Forum Secretariat will be arriving this week to work as observers during next week’s National Elections.
“These two official observer teams will be here to observe the elections. The Commonwealth Forum Secretariat will send in seven and the Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat will send in five observers,” Jino said.
He added that other international governments will also be sending in their observers.
Jino said apart from these two international observer teams, the governments of Australia, New Zealand, UK and Japan will also be sending in their observers.
He said other non government organisations will also be sending in their observers.
“They will work alongside the official observer teams and the electoral commission to coordinate and report on the election.”
Jino said all the observer teams should arrive by the end of the week and prepare themselves for the polling day next Wednesday.
