International Volunteer Day is celebrated annually on the 5th of December.
This year in the Solomon Islands, local and international volunteer sending agencies partner together with Development Services Organisation, other local volunteers police, and correctional service staff came together to clean the maternity and children’s ward at the National Referral Hospital (NRH), Honiara.
The 2015 theme, “Your world is changing. Are you? Volunteer!” starts a dialogue about how volunteerism is vital to the success of the new Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
A statement from the organisers said, the SDGs are a universal set of goals, targets and indicators that all UN members will use to frame their policies over the next 15 years.
On IVD 2015 we challenge everyone to think about how they can make a difference in implementing the Global Goals.
For IVD 2015 join us in recognizing the individuals who are engaged in volunteering their time, energies, and skills to change our world for a better future.
Activities in the Solomon Islands will focus on SDG #3-good health and well-being for all ages and are linked to the 16 days of activism against domestic violence.
