INTERPLAST Australia & New Zealand (Interplast) will visit Honiara from the 28 June – 7 July 2016.
The team will be at the National Referral Hospital (NRH) in Honiara from 29 June -6 July 2015 to facilitate plastic and reconstructive surgical services and training.
The team will be led by Dr Zachary Moaveni and will include two plastic surgeons, one anaesthetist, two nurses and for the first time a hand therapist.
Consultation clinic will be held on Wednesday 29 June.
Plastic and reconstructive surgery will be performed at the NRH from the 30 June – 1 July & 4 – 6 July.
The hand therapist will conduct an assessment on the local needs with a view to provide mentoring in the future but also assist the surgical team clinically with some of the patients seen and assist in their rehabilitation.
Patients with conditions including cleft lip and palate, scarring from burns, hand injuries and tumours are urged to contact the surgical unit at the National Referral Hospital for an appointment. Please note patients with common skin diseases or cosmetic conditions will be excluded from this consultation.
Interplast medical teams, funded by the Australian Government and Rotary Clubs in Australia and New Zealand have been visiting the Solomon Islands since 1984 to provide free surgical intervention programs to relieve people of disability.
To date 1953 consultations and 1210 life-changing procedures have been conducted in the Solomon Islands.
The 2016 Interplast Honiara program activity will be the 42nd Interplast visit to the Solomon Islands and is primarily funded by Rotary District 9830 (TAS).
