Dear Editor – Gratefully allow me space under your editorial column to highlight and correct the wrong profile information given about the two national leaders on our National Parliament website.
I was browsing through our national Parliament website (http://www.parliament.gov.sb/index.php?q=node/833) for research purposes. My researching on our former and current Members of Parliament resulted with locating few erroneous mistakes being made on the national profile of the above mentioned two MPs and other five MPs.
For clarity, following the alphabetical Listing of Members of the 10th Parliament, you will uncover a Member’s full profile.
That includes a Member’s profile photo, his/her Constituency, Contact Address, Parliamentary Appointments, Party Affiliation, Parliamentary Committee Appointments, Ministerial Appointments, Qualification, Occupation before entering parliament and Personal (year of birth and home Island).
I was browsing the parliament site that day purposely to categorize and distribute Members of the 10th Parliament according to their ages (21-30, 31-40, 41-50, 51-60, 61-70), Profession, Sex, and Political Party Affiliation.
Firstly, under the bold heading “Members of Parliament” and sub heading “Members of the 10th Parliament – Information about members of Parliament”, by clicking on “List of Members by alphabetical order”, you will locate Abana, Hon. Steve William MP for Fataleka appeared on No.1.
Clicking on his name to view his full profile, you will be amazed to see the profile picture of Hon. Bartholomew Parapolo, his Constituency and his entire personal profile information appeared on the screen instead of Hon. Steve Abana’s.
What a great error!
On the same note, you will find that same error surfaced again below the “Alphabetical listing of Members of the 9th Parliament”.
For verification purpose and putting it right, Abana, Hon. Steve William’s rightful profile appeared down from the “Alphabetical listing of Members of the 8th Parliament” with his right profile photo and information.
Parapolo, Hon. Bartholomew’s full profile shown up again on no.32 beneath his name which resulted in the exclusion of Hon. Abana’s whole profile under the alphabetical listing of Members of both the 9th and 10th Parliament.
Secondly and still beneath the “Alphabetical listing of Members of the 10th Parliament”, you will discover that Marau, Hon. William Bradford MP for Ulawa-Ugi surfaced on no.27, Tovosia, Hon. Bradley MP for East Guadalcanal on no.47, Tozaka, Hon. Milner MP for Vella La Vella on no.48, Tran, Hon. Namson MP for West Honiara on no.49, and Wale, Hon. Matthew C. MP for Aoke Langa Langa came out on no.50.
By tapping on any of the above five (mentioned national leaders’ names, you will unable to locate any of their profiles.
Only one picture will surface for the 5 MPs. That is a workshop group photo with the Clerk in the middle with staff of the national Parliament, taken at Paul Tovua complex and it’s the national Parliament website home page.
That group photo came into view below the “STAKEHOLDERS NEED TO WORK CLOSELY WITH PARLIAMENTARY COMMITTEES” bold heading. Worst still, I did not even view any of them (the 5 MPs) appeared in that supplied group photo.
And thirdly, the wrong listing of Dr Derek Sikua and the late Joseph Onika under different constituencies.
Down from the list of the 9th Parliament Members of Parliament, you will find the list of the 9th Parliament Members 2010-2014 in a PDF format.
On that listing, Hon. Dr. Derek’ s name was shown on no.8 as MP for East Central Guadalcanal and late Hon. Joseph Onika as MP for North East Guadalcanal. To put it right for future and correct reference, Hon. Dr. Derek was the former and the current MP for North East Guadalcanal and the late Hon. Joseph Onika former MP for East Central Guadalcanal in the 9th Parliament.
Lastly, because we are living in a digital and globalised world, correct labeling of our national leaders as far as their personal profiles are concern is vitally important for both people in country and abroad to access the rightful information.
