SAINT Nicholas will now be called St Nicholas College.
The school’s new name and sign board was unveiled during its year-end graduation ceremony, on Friday.
The status change was done through the school’s consultation and application to the Ministry of Education, which was accepted.
School principal Christina Vunagi said the new status means the school will now be called Saint Nicholas College.
She said this is a challenge for the school to live up to its new status.
“Will the name bring changes to the school environment, the school set up, the administration, teaching staff, our attitudes and commitments etc… or just a change in name is a big question in our minds,” Mrs Vunagi said.
“I hope the new name will give its status. And I hope that the Anglican Church of Melanesia and the school board will ensure that St. Nicholas College maintains the status to be choice for parents to educate their children in the years to come.
“I believe that we have the potential and capability and we have already done so to maintain academic excellence, to provide better facilities, to groom teachers to perform to standards, and students to be just as competent so that the change is not just by name, but also by performance, actions, attitudes, conducts of those who belong to this school and those who administer it.”
The theme for the school’s graduation is “Excel through Partnership in education”.
