THE HONIARA-based Ughele soccer players who recently formed a team have voted ‘Kaiza United’ as the official team name to participate in upcoming football competitions.
The name aims to reflect the people of Ughele in South Rendova of Western Province.
Kaiza United was voted for by the majority of players during a brief election on Monday at Henderson, Central Guadalcanal.
There were seven names being suggested by the players but the majority voted for Kaiza United.
People in Ughele are sometimes referred to by other people as ‘Kaiza’ thus, saw majority of the players voted in favour of the name.
Most of the players are from Ughele who are working, living and studying in Honiara.
For the players the name symbolises ‘Unity.’
Former Solomon Star Reporter and Sports Editor Donaldson Rusa designed the logo for the team. The logo will be printed on the t-shirts and jerseys.
Kaiza United team has gone through intensive training sessions every evening except for Fridays and Saturdays at Henderson field near Henderson Police Station.
The team will participate and compete in Kenwood Harry’s soccer tournament scheduled for December this year during the festive season.
Its going to be an 11 aside soccer tournament which is aimed at bringing together local soccer teams in Ughele and other catchment villages from Egholo and probably Rendova Harbour in North Rendova.
Reports reaching Star Sport stated that local teams in Ughele are also gearing up for this important tournament that aims to unite people through sport and celebrate the Christmas and New year period.
Ughele Sport Association President Laudington Andrew is an individual who is behind the formation of this team.
He said he wants all Ughele boys who live, work and study in Honiara to continue training under this team so that they can be involved in positive activities.
Dr Ray Seleso last week donated two soccer balls for training.
He was excited to see the set-up of the team.
