THE President of the Oceania Paralympic Committee (OPC) Paul Bird has congratulated our golden boy Solomon Jagiri for securing his spot for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games.
Jagiri secured his spot for the 2020 Paralympic Games during a qualifying event for Oceania Taekwondo held in Gold Coast over the weekend.
“Congratulations to Solomon Jagiri for his outstanding performance in winning the gold medal,” President Bird said.
He described Jagiri’s achievement as historic since he was the first athlete from Oceania countries to be selected on merit for the Tokyo2020 Paralympic Games.
“This is an incredible outcome as Solomon became the first athlete from our Oceania developing countries to be selected on merit for the Tokyo2020 Paralympic Games.
President Bird also took the opportunity to thank the president of the Solomon Islands National Paralympic Committee (SINPC) Nihal Seneviratne for including taekwondo in his events.
“Nihal your persistence in targeting Taekwondo as a new sport for Paralympics has paid incredible dividends and it is great to see a new sport gain a profile in the Oceania Region.
“This is also a great boost for ParaSport in the Solomon Islands,” the OPC president added.
