More high-profile cases investigated by the by the investigative taskforce
THE joint investigative taskforce JANUS is still active with few high-profile cases being dealt with.
That’s according to the National Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Solomon Island Police Force (RSIPF) last week.
During the weekly RSIPF weekly radio update on Friday, the NCID informed the public that JANUS is still active and intact.
The department assured the nation and public that a number of cases that are criminal in nature are under investigation.
Solomon Star understands that some of these cases involve some of the country’s top leaders, especially former Members of Parliament (MP) and Members of the Provincial Assemblies (MPAs).
Some of the leaders are now facing the courts.
Whilst the department could not disclose the cases and leaders implicated in the cases, the public has been assured that investigations are making progress.
“JANUS is still doing a fine job and is currently dealing with a number of criminal related cases including high profile ones,” the official said.
The department also highlighted that some of the cases would take time to investigate because of a number of challenges the officers face during the process of their investigation.
So far, a number of high-profile cases involving former MPs and MPAs are being dealt with by the courts after police investigation found enough evidence to bring their cases to the courts for further dealing and prosecution.
The investigation department is also encouraging the public to come forward with strong evidences if they think their leaders were not honest in their work so police can investigate further.
The public is advised to visit any police station around the country and open a case.
Based on the report and documents provided, the police can look at the matter and if there are strong evidences that warrant a thorough investigation, the matter can be referred to NCID for further analysis and action.
“Come with strong evidence and documents to support your case.
“Based on the evidence, the police can analyse the case and identify what steps and actions to take,” the official said.
Janus is a joint task force operation between the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) and the Ministry of Finance & Treasury to combat corruption.
It was established in August 2016.
