JAPAN has handed over a double-storey classroom to Areatakiki Seventh Day Adventist School in Central Guadalcanal.
The handover ceremony was held recently.
The Japanese Government provided $724,191 in total to build this classical project that will boost the learning capacity of students.
The Japanese Government funded this project under its Grassroots and Human Security Project.
This school has six classrooms for its Grades 1 to 6 students.
In his speech, the Japanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands, Miwa Yoshiaki said he was honoured to hand over the school project.
“I am honored to attend today’s ceremony to celebrate the official opening of the new classroom building of Areatakiki Seventh Day Adventist Primary School.
“I am very delighted that this ceremony is graced by the presence of many people attending this memorable day,” he said.
With the completion of this project, Ambassador Miwa saluted the dedicated individuals who have contributed to the implementation of this project from start to the completion.
“This funded infrastructure will produce future leaders that will bring positive continuous change to our communities, constituencies, provinces and the country.
“This assistance aims to improve and to strengthen basic infrastructure in the education sector,” he added.
Ambassador Miwa said he was delighted that this occasion also celebrated the long-standing partnership between Japan and Solomon Islands in the education sector.
Head Teacher of Areatakiki SDA Primary School, Darren Kent said this handover is a history for Areatakiki Community as it marks a significant milestone – the fulfilment of their dream to have a new school.
“We are now witnessing, celebrating and enjoying the amazing gift of the people of Japan,” he said.
Mr Kent said now the school’s 245 students with eight teachers will enjoy their brand-new classroom.
“To the people of Japan, you will forever be remembered. You are our provider, you are magnetic, attractive, memorable, champions for both the young and old in our community,” he added.
This classroom project was built by contractor Dickson Kilua.
