POLO community, Polo ward, Choiseul Province has been officially handed over a newly built clinic on Thursday last week.
Funded by the Japanese government with support from Choiseul Province Health division, the project was signed between the two parties in 2013 and has just been completed.
More than $840,000 of funds was used to complete the health centre. The handing over ceremony last week was a joyeous moment for the village of Polo and surrounding communities that will benefit from the health centre.
An official from the Japanese Embassy said the project faced many problems which resulted in it taking around three years.
“We had actually faced with a lot of problem on this project but finally we managed it to see the completion of this project, thanks to the tireless effort of Polo community people.
“Now this project is yours. Now that you have started to assume responsibility, do take good care of these facilities.
“I hope that these facilities will be maintained well so that this project will benefit many generations of people in your community, and be remembered as a symbol of the friendship between the two peoples of Japan and Solomon Islands for many years to come.”
Under Japan’s Grassroots and Human Security Projects Scheme, Improvement of access to primary health is one of the priority areas to focus on basic human needs of the people of Solomon Islands.
