JUDGEMENT on the case of two juveniles accused of setting fire to the leaf hut next to the Parliament Building during last November’s unrest will be delivered this afternoon.
Chief Magistrate Emma Garo will hand down the judgement at 2pm this afternoon.
The judgement was previously listed last Monday but Ms Garo had it further adjourned to this afternoon.
The judgement is due following a trial conducted on the arson offence.
The prosecution called in eight witnesses for their case.
The defence made a no case to answer submission at the end of the prosecution case, seeking an acquittal due to inconsistencies of evidences from prosecution witnesses.
The court, however, found the juveniles have a case to answer so that requires them to make their defence.
The juveniles decided to remain silent for the defence case, hence completing the trial.
After hearing the defence’s final arguments, the court is now ready to deliver the juveniles’ fate.
The Juveniles were aged 16 and 17 at the time of the offence, which was on 24 November 2021.
The prosecution alleged they were part of the group of protesters who entered the parliament house that day.
This was shortly after a group of protesters gathered at the Point Cruz area in front of the back entrance to the Parliament House.
The protesters were demanding the Prime Minister to step down.
