Financial constraints compromise the work of judiciary
Chief Justice Sir Albert Palmer says delivery of justice in the country is being compromised by financial constraints.
He revealed this during the induction program conducted for Members of Parliament (MPs) last week.
Speaking before the MPs Sir Albert admitted that the major obstacle to progress the work of judiciary is the usual delay in finance by the Ministry of Finance & Treasury (MoFT).
In his presentation the Chief Justice stated that delay of court cases to be heard occurs because of lack of funding, thus everybody frustrated and justice not delivered.
He said, that this problem continues to happen because they rely entirely on MoFT for disbursement of funds to execute their work, which is a public knowledge to see how difficult it is to have your cheque release by the finance ministry.
The Chief Justice added that the High Court have been work hard to cope with the increasing number of pending cases despite having four Judges, but usual delay in finance affects their efforts to get their work schedule executed on time.
“It seem that everybody compete at the Finance Ministry for funds, while some are given priority than the work of the judiciary,” he said.
The Chief Justice called for the Ministry of Finance & Treasury to release funds available for their work as soon as possible.
