SOLOMON Islands will be represented by U14 tennis player Junior Kennedy at the Asia & Oceania Davis pre-qualifying event in Colombo, Sri-Lanka.
This was confirmed by his coach and one of the country’s top tennis players, Junior Benjamin who is also accompanying young Kennedy at the tournament.
Kennedy was selected to be part of the Pacific Oceania team following his impressive performances in recent regional tennis competitions.
“The selection was based on the performances in the regional championship in Fiji last year.
“Jnr Kennedy is the only player selected from Solomon Islands who will team up with a player from Tahiti and Saipain for Team Oceania,” Coach Junior Benjamin said.
Jnr Kennedy has been training under Coach Benjamin in the past weeks.
Benjamin is confident young Kennedy will compete and highlighted that it will be a great opportunity to give Kennedy the exposure and experience.
“I’m sure he has prepared well.
“This will be the first time for him to compete outside of Oceania region and it will be good to see how he goes up against players from other countries.
“Win or lose, it’s still a great exposure for him at this very young age,” Benjamin added.
Kennedy and Coach Benjamin are currently in Sri Lanka and are ready to compete.
