MEMBER for East Are’Are Honourable Peter Kenilorea Jr has called for an update on the progress of the mini hospital in East Malaita.
Hon. Kenilorea made the enquiry on behalf of his people of East Are’Are, who were also named as potential beneficiaries to this new project.
“My people of East Are’Are have been identified among those who stand to reap the benefits of this mini-hospital once it is finished. Thus, we are very interested in how the project is advancing,” Hon. Kenilorea stated.
With the project boasting a significant budget of $40million dollars, expectations have certainly been raised, Hon Kenilorea said.
“If the 12million dollar health centre in Afio is our reference point, then this 40-million-dollar mini hospital should surpass the health centre in Afio in both size and the range of services offered,” Hon. Kenilorea explained.
Hon. Kenilorea also raised an important concern regarding post construction plans for the mini hospital.
“I hope there is already some collaboration happening among all stakeholders and parties involved to ensure that this health facility is equipped with enough doctors, nurses, medicines and other resources once it is complete” Hon. Kenilorea said.
He said this is to ensure that the same problems that are being experienced at the National Referral Hospital and clinics are avoided at this mini-hospital.
The East Are’Are MP said he eagerly anticipates any progress report on the new hospital from relevant authorities.
Hon Kenilorea adds Atoifi Hospital, which is closer to East Are’Are, also needs such assistance.
He said support should also be given to Atoifi an established hospital that has helped many East Are’Are people over the years.
