PETER Kenilorea Jnr. has taken up his new role as Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and External Trade.
Mr Kenilorea, who arrived back from New York early this month where he had served with the United Nations (UN) for 17 years, confirmed this to the Solomon Star yesterday.
He said he actually started work on March 7, but took his oath of office only on Wednesday this week.
The oath-taking ceremony was held at Government House before acting Governor General and Speaker of the National Parliament, Ajilon Nasiu.
Mr Kenilorea said he’s slowly settling in and getting briefings from senior ministerial staff.
“I am confident of taking up this new position and look forward to working together with the government and dealing with foreign affairs and international issues,” he said.
“I am humble and looking forward to serving my country, using the experiences I’ve gained from my 17 years of working with the UN,” Mr Kenilorea added.
Mr Kenilorea is the eldest son of the country’s first Prime Minister, Sir Peter Kenilorea, who passed away in February last year.
At the UN, he served as Program Officer of the Office of the High Representative for the Least Developed Countries, Landlocked Developing Countries and Small Island Developing States (OHRLLS).
He resigned from the UN after the government offered him the permanent secretary job.
