KILU’UFI Hospital Laboratory is under final renovation and is expected to complete by next week to serve its purpose.
Malaita Provincial Government and the National Government funded the renovation work which is currently in progress.
This means Kilu’ufi Hospital will still send COVID-19 swab test samples to Honiara for further verification while waiting for renovation work on Kilu’ufi Laboratory to be completed by next week.
Malaita Provincial Health Director Dr Rex Maukera confirmed this to Solomon Star Auki this afternoon (Friday 28 January 2022) in an interview.
The Provincial Health Director said while renovation work is ongoing, two visiting officers sent from Honiara to assess the lab have already arrived at Kilu’ufi.
He said once they assess the lab and give the green light for the lab to operate, Kilu’ufi Hospital will provide COVID-19 test results.
With that, Dr Maukera assured the public that COVID-19 community tracing will start once the Kilu’ufi lab is operational.
