Dear Editor – Firstly, crimes and anti- social behaviors in some Honiara settlement is becoming unbearable and responsible authorities must be informed to take appropriate action.
People are very mindful about the dangers squatter settlement poses especially at night times because, of the kinds of people and activities in these area.
For those who live beside these kinds of places one cannot sleep well at night or comfortable feel at ease at walking past such area, worst still when such settlement is in front of the only access road used by the general public.
At the KGVI heights junction or the Abalolo area (as often referred to), where the feeder from the KGVI school main road was built to serve the resident living in both the curriculum development division house and KGVI school staff residential on the both directions of the junction.
At the time, these land area were empty and the road access used to be safe and secure.
Today, due to the squatter on the area, it becomes a host to all sorts of anti-social activities. The daily victims are the residents from these government residential houses in the area including the new USP compass residence and other who uses this particular road.
This squatter settlers, tend to treat it as their ancestor’s tribal land.
Activities, includes stealing (beliga), drinking and brewing of kwaso, marijuana. You name it.
Weekends are the peak times when uncontrolled intoxicated members ruled, the access road turning it into a –go- zone, thereby victimizing the innocent road users from the public.
A lady who used to rent a one building in the quarter that their betel nut stalls are where daily gossiping about just anybody are walks pass.
Females are the targets for insults by kwaso drunkards with sexist comments. I sometimes wonder how they would feel if their own sisters are treated that way?
Other times they would extend such nuisance pass the residential house in the area, with all sorts of dirt’s from their mouths.
These activities are now becoming out of control and unbearable with such uncivilized behavior. They are not even ashamed of themselves settling illegally in other people’s land, and behaving extremely inhuman in the eyes of the public. A human breed of some sort.
This particular strip of land is legally part of KGVI school land. To help stop[ this nuisance and inhuman behaviors, the KGVI school principal and the permanent secretary of the ministry of education and the police (if required) need to step in and evict these people out of the area.
Talk to their elders who ever they are, if they are still on control of their tribesmen. That they need to come to some senses.
They are illegally quartering on someone’s land and as if it is still not enough, they engaged on creating problems to other innocent and law abiding people, their families and the public at large.
These behaviors must not be allowed in this area forever.
