KIRAKIRA hospital in Makira Ulawa province received a timely assistance from South Pacific Oil Company last Friday.
SPO team led by Sales and Marketing manager, William Watepuru traveled over to the provincial capital and handed two drums petrol, compressor nebuliser, oxygen trolley, wrist blood pressure monitor, stethoscope and personal scale.
Mr Watepuru said this was part of the company’s corporate social responsibility to assist institutions that provide essential services to the population.
He said SPO had also donated similar assistance to Buala hospital in Isabel province last month.
“SPO is 100% owned by National Provident Fund, so all nurses, doctors and employees and direct members to it.
“When SPO make profits, it will be paid to NPF contributions,” Watepuru said.
Director of Nursing at the KiraKira hospital, John Selwyn Harara has thanked SPO for the kind donation.
Harara said 30% of the hospital’s budget was spent on fuel to deliver its services to the patients and people.
Furthermore, he said the compressor nebuliser was very important to deal with asthma cases relating to respiratory infection.
He said, it fits well to deal with children who have asthma.
Moreover, Harara said the trolley will be used to carry the oxygen gas and personal scale to weigh the weights of patients.
He said in last two weeks, there was no scale and nurses make estimation on patients.
Harara said the stethoscope will be used to listen to chests of patients.
Kirakira hospital is a 87 beds building but had scaled down to 62 beds recently.
It acts as referral hospital for 42 health facilities around the province.
There are 100 plus staff including two medical practitioners serving the hospital in the province that has a population rate of 49,000 people.
