KIRAKIRA Police in Makira-Ulawa Province have confiscated tools used for the production of kwaso, the homebrewed alcohol, in parts of Makira Island on New Year.
The Provincial Police Commander Peter Sitai said in Kirakira, police teams were sent to areas of Makira where people were producing kwaso and confiscated their tools and also uprooted marijuana gardens.
He said police also attended to incidents that were kwaso and alcohol related.
PPC Sitai said police also attended to reports of increasing number of black markets selling alcohol in the new year period.
But he said on the whole, the Xmas New Year period in Makira-Ulawa Province was very peaceful and people were happy.
