Dear Editor – I refer to Star No.6636 of Tuesday 4 July, 2017 which published His Excellency Taneti Maamau and First Lady Teiraeng courtesy call on Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare Friday last week.
In particular His Excellency’s acknowledgement of the point; Solomon Islands continued hosting of people from Kiribati in various parts of the country.
For His Excellency’s knowledge, I must tell him that Solomon Islands is not HOSTING the I-Kiribati people here in this sovereign nation. The I-Kiribati or Micronesians of Solomon Islands are legally integrated into Solomon Islands and as far as nationality goes, they are Solomon Islands Micronesians.
My wife is a Solomon Islands Micronesian and though her roots go as far as Tamana, Aarorae and Tabiteua Islands in the southern Republic of Kiribati, she is not a Micronesian from that nation anymore.
Today she is further integrated through marriage into the Suramane sub-Tribe of Roho Tribal land of Are’Are, Malaita Province.
This is reality of Solomon Islands Micronesians here Mr. President.
