LIKE many rural communities in Choiseul that successfully welcomed 2025 on Wednesday, 1st January the small community of Koa in South Choiseul also had a bit of fun on to welcome the day.
Reports reaching the Solomon Star revealed that after much planning a new year celebration was organised on Wednesday.
Because of the festive break the village had a good number of visitors who decided to spend the break at Koa village.
With the fine weather on Wednesday, they were able to organise a day of sports, social activities and a feasting late that evening.
A resident from Koa community Pita Kabolo shared the excitement of the new year celebration with the entire village coming out in numbers to engage in sports, entertainment and feasting.
With the presence of those who worked and studied in Honiara and other urban centres, the program was very exciting.
“Yes, we had a brief celebration to welcome the new year by organising sports and feasting,” Mr Kabolo told the Solomon on Thursday.
He said, the village enjoyed themselves during the new year’s day celebration.
The community is looking forward to the 2026 celebration again.
