TWO former senior police officers face the Honiara Magistrates’ Court, Tuesday, on traffic related offences.
Former deputy police commissioner Walter Kola is facing one count of careless & inconsiderate driving and one count of failing to stop and report.
These were in relation to the allegation on 11 April 2014, at Point Cruz when he was driving a G-plate number 3634, ran into the island in the middle of the road and hit an electric post.
This was in front of the Solomon Island Investment Cooperation office located at the Mendana Avenue, Point Cruz.
Meanwhile, in relation to the second case, former provincial police commander of Guadalcanal, Daniel Hunikera is facing charges of driving when being in charge or under the influence of drinks and careless & inconsiderate driving.
This was in relation to an incident at Alligator Creek in East Guadalcanal on 14 February 2015.
Hunikera crashed a government vehicle during an early morning ride.
It was alleged he was drinking at that time.
It was believed this was the same vehicle previous used by Kola.
The expensive government vehicle was badly damaged when it veered off the road and crashed in the Alligator Creek area.
That G-plated vehicle was allocated and garaged by Hunikera.
The incident allegedly occurred between 4 am and 5am.
Both the accused, who are still without legal representation, have had their cases adjourned to 5 May for plea.
Kola told the court he needs the disclosures before he could decide whether to get a lawyer or not.
Public Prosecutor Jasper Anisi informed the court that this is the first appearance for them since the matter was transferred to their office.
Magistrate Augustine Aulanga adjourned the matter and extended bail for both accused.
