Member of Parliament (MP) for North New Georgia and Minister for the Ministry of Public Service (MPS) John Dean Kuku applauds the 2015 Appropriation Bill describing it as realistic.
“Realistic Mr Speaker Sir because this the first time we recognised the rural people and the rural economy as paramount to nation building,” he said. “It finances the government policies and programs which aim at promoting rural development,” he added.
He said that this budget places people at the centre of national development and set the stage for what we are all working towards from 2015 and beyond.
He further stated that this budget is not about self interest rather national interest. “It is a focus and disciplined approach to building the nation’s economic capacity but not reckless spending,” Kuku stated.
Minister Kuku added by saying the government is taking a long-term investment not only in rural development and infrastructure development but in other aspects of the economy that were neglected for far too long that should empower greater productivity for this country.
He continued by saying that Solomon Islands needs a generation of leadership skills with innovative ideas about how to move this nation forward, by learning from our past and improve the outcomes for government services.
In addition to his remarks he saidd that MPs must come to terms with reality on the ground and ought to realize that governing is more than repetition of old campaign promises rather ready to face challenges head-on, and be honest enough to fulfil the outlined development goals and objectives of DCC.
Moreover, he said that nothing is more important for the government than to fulfil its promises to deliver basic services to all Solomon Islanders.
“Given our current resources we can’t pretend to provide all of the services that we would like to obtain,” he said.
“But that doesn’t mean that we are not smart enough to make more out of our limited resources, we just need to have sound policies to respond to the needs of our people,” he said.
Meanwhile Kuku stated that North New Georgia Constituency and its people are beginning their new journey in this 21st Century.
